Schtuff

Work went well today; I attempted my first ABG (arterial blood gas) draw on an already (mercifully) unconscious patient, but had a hard time with it. ABGs are painful to receive, that's why I was glad the the patient was already doped to the gills before my attempt.

On to costuming news...I got the last hooks and eyes attached to the Transitional gown, and all that needs to be done is the blue velvet binding and hemming. Whew! I thought I'd never see the end of it! Once the Transitional gown is done, I plan to make a black wool partlet to keep the girls from freezing and to avoid, erm, overexposure. I cut the bodice front a little low...Then it is one to a gable hood of the super-early variety. Think Elizabeth of York sort of gable hood, and you've got it.

Off to dinner with my man -- he did finally apologize for yelling at me. And a lot sooner than I had expected, too.

Posting a lot, aren't we?

I have a question fore all you out there who have had to deal with mice. Fagan, our Mighty Hunter of Doom (who thinks he's a dog) brought me a mouse tonight as I was washing dishes. A very dead mouse, clamped in his jaws.

Urgh. I just about hurled.

When we moved into the house, the former tenant advised us that he had a couple of mouse holes in teh cabinetry, so we plugged up the holes with steel wool. I had heard that it hurts their noses, so they avoid the holes.

Apparently, I was wrong.

I checked the cabinets that had the mouseholes, and lo and behold! Droppings. In our baking dishes. *Those* puppies are going to soak overnight in bleach water. The dishes, not the droppings.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting rid of mice, like preventative measures? I don't want to use poison because of the cats' possible ingestion, and traps? Ick. Do I call an exterminator? What do I do, besides panic at the thought of all that mouse poop shedding germs on our cookware?
