Had a good day
Feb. 3rd, 2005 04:01 pmMan, it's not often I can write that! I did 3 ABGs today, and got them all...the third one I did, the patient said he didn't feel a thing! Woot!
And I finally beat the post-lunch slump. OK, my work schedule looks something like this: 4 AM-6:30 AM, morning draw (usually about 12 patients a person, often all on the same floor). 6:30 AM-9 AM, draw patients at the behavioral health facility. 9 AM-9:15 AM, break. 9:15 AM-12:30 PM, pick up whatever draws/STATS/ASAPS/timed draws that have been ordered (which means I'm running around the entire hospital instead of just one floor). 12:30 PM-1 PM, lunch. 1 PM-2:30 PM, pick up draws as ordered. 2:30 PM, go home with achy feet.
This entire week, I have been unable to hit a vein after lunch. It's very frustrating to have a really good day, then wham! Can't hit a damned vein if it reached out and slapped me.
Well, today, I changed all that and actually did all four draws I wound up with. Yay me!
I'm feeling a lot more energetic when i get home from work, too, which helps Ye Olde Personal Life. A bit more sewing on the transitional gown, and I'll be done. I think I'll finish it up this weekend. Then on to a partlet and gable hood.
