Boe's birthday present to me is a dog.
Now, he didn't wrap a puppy in a ribbon and give it to me -- he did the smart thing and is encouraging me to go to the shelters in our area to pick out an adult dog. The reasoning behind a dog is simple -- he and I know that I need to exercise more and that I am horrible at self-motivation. Therefore, with a dog, I will have no choice but to take our future pooch on walks.
In addition, I have wanted a dog for quite a while and now that Boe's income has increased (and is far more stable), we can afford a dog as well as our kittehs. Hence, we are getting a dog.
I have several pooches in mind -- one at the Ft Wayne ASPCA (female fawn greyhound), one at the Allen County Animal Care and Control (male liver/white large spaniel-type), 2 at the Whitley County ASPCA (female fawn/white Boxer/hound mix and male brindle/white Boxer/Lab mix), and one from a fosterer in the Anderson area (male brindle/white pitbull). The pittie was a rescue from a dogfighting ring the police had raided -- the sole dog not euthanized for aggression (the poor thing was used as a bait dog for not being "game" enough to fight). Any suggestions as to what I should watch for in interacting to make sure there are no/few issues to deal with?
I have training classes paid for, cat vaccinations up-to-date, and by this time next week, I should be a new doggie mama!
ETA: it looks like the spaniel at the AC&C has already been adopted.
