Well, I thought I'd modify my farthingale today, and failed miserably. So I called Carrie (the voice of reason, bless her) and made arrangements to go to her house tomorrow and get things figured out for a new (and hopefully better-looking) farthingale.
I also tried the kirtle on, and the bodice was about 1/2 inch too big all the way around. I'm pretty sure I laced myself just a titch too much into my corset, and that lacing a smidge looser will take care of *that* issue. I'm really impressed with the French cut bodice on this thing -- the curve of the neckline is just perfect. And I don't get things perfect often enough to take it for granted. :-)
