Sewing weekend fun
Jan. 23rd, 2005 07:40 amMy Duchess and I were having a conversation several days ago, and she mentioned that the March Imperial Estates Meeting is going to be held in our duchy. Aaaaack! Imperial higher-ups means new clothes and *fast*. SO I went over to Her Grace's house yesterday and we started on a 1520s Tudor in green linen. You know those famous "back views" of a woman in Tudor garb? Well, that was our inspiration. Like I said, the gown is in green linen (we didn't have any suitable wool or silk) and the sleeve turnbacks are this really plush and soft fake fur in black. Due to yardage/practicality issues, we edited out the train at teh back of the skirt.
We managed to get the bodice, skirt, and sleeves all cut out and finished yesterday, and today we're going to work on putting everything together and adding a stomacher at the front of the bodice a la Jane Seymour's portraits to hide the lacing holes.
I may also convince Her Grace to allow me to make her a gable hood -- for when she gets tired of wearing her crown, of course. She has a pearl rope or two for her bodice already, so we don't have to worry about that, and I will loan Her Grace my quasi-Tudor pendant (it looks really good -- all it needs is a pearl drop at the bottom -- but I picked it up at Dollar General for a buck. I love Dollar General.)
Then I'll start convincing His Grace that he is in desperate need of new clothing.
Then I'll finish Boe's garb, since he'll be coming with me if I have to drag him kicking and screaming. And then I'll work on a new outfit for myself, after I finish the Transitional Gown.
At least I have a couple of months.
